The setting style of an earring refers to how the stones are secured. There are different types of settings available for diamond stud earrings and these will be determined by the shape of the diamond itself as well your personal preferences and individual style.

If you are going for a classic look, one simple stud with a black diamond stone looks amazing. Mens black diamond studs are one the most popular style earring for men and are available in many different sizes and settings.

Bezel Settings

A bezel setting has a band of metal containing a groove and flange rim that encircles the sides of the diamond gemstone and extends slightly above it. Also called rub-over settings the rim, or collar, can completely encircle the gem’s entire circumference or only a certain percentage. Because this bezel setting is a low profile design this is the first choice for men with active athletic life styles. This was the earliest method of setting gemstones into jewelry.

Prong Settings

The prong setting, sometimes called a claw setting, is the most commonly method used to secure gemstones into place.

To create a prong setting, a gem is inserted into three or more metal prongs that form a basket-like base. The ends of the prongs are bent over so that they rest against the gem to hold it firmly in place.

Prong settings can be very ornate or bent in a way that makes them a significant part of the jewelry's design.

Depending on the size and shape of the diamond the ring may be a 3 or 4 prong style.

Mens Black Diamond Studs and Earrings in Different Shapes and Sizes

Diamonds are cut into a variety of shapes and sizes and the particular cut of each unique diamond is crucial in displaying the stone's quality and beauty. The cut of the diamond refers to the accurate proportions and precise facets of the gemstone. You can choose from various diamond shapes, including round brilliant, oval, marquise, emerald, square, princesses cut and pear. All but round are considered fancy shapes and tend to be a little more expensive. For men, deciding on the right cut black diamond is very important because they tend to wear it exclusively for long periods of time.

The two most common shapes for men’s stud earrings are the round brilliant cut diamond which is by far the most popular and the princess cut diamond which has pointed corners and is traditionally square or rectangular in shape with numerous sparkling facets.

The princess cut diamond is the second most popular diamond shape after the round diamond.

To find the dimension you want compare the different length-to-width ratios available. This will determine what the diamond will look like when viewing it from straight on.

Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Studs For Men

The round brilliant cut diamond is the most traditional and popular of all diamond shapes, and accounts for more than 75% of diamonds sold today.

A round cut diamond has a total of 58 facets, 33 on the top portion called the crown and 25 facets on the bottom called the pavilion. A round diamond that is cut to ideal cut diamond parameters will be the most beautiful and brilliant of all the diamond shapes.

In addition to being the most popular and researched shape, a round diamond will typically give the most flexibility in terms of balancing cut, color, and clarity grades while still getting the fire and brilliance you want.

What are Black Diamonds?

Exotic and beautiful black diamonds are unique among other diamonds. Common diamonds that we are all familiar with are formed hundreds of miles below the surface of the earth’s crust. Immense heat and pressure over time turn carbon into diamonds. This process is commonly known as mineral metamorphosis.   Most colored diamonds attribute their brilliant hues to chemical impurities that grew within the crystal lattice as the diamond was forming. Blue diamond’s for example getting their color when boron is present during formation and a yellow diamond needs a dash of nitrogen.

The black Diamond gets it uniqueness not by chemical impurities but by mineral inclusions. Mineral inclusions, typically iron oxides such as magnetite, hematite, or sulfide compounds give the diamond its dark color.

Diamonds Decoded: The 4C's: Diamond Clarity

Diamond Clarity

What Is Diamond Clarity? Clarity is one of the four Cs of diamond grading, the others being carat, color, and cut. Diamond clarity is a term used to describe the absence or presence of the tiny, natural imperfections that occur in all but the finest diamonds. Many of these imperfections are microscopic, and do not affect a diamond's beauty in any discernible way. Gemologists refer to these imperfections by a variety of technical names, including blemishes and inclusions, among others. Diamonds with higher clarity grades are more valued, with the exceedingly rare Flawless graded diamond fetching the highest price.

How to Pick a Diamond : Diamonds Enhancements

Why So Many Enhanced Black Diamonds

Because of the rarity of black colored diamonds new methods of creating and enhancing have needed to be developed. One method used to enhance the black color of diamonds is irradiation. A heat treatment (also called annealing) exposes the gems to high temperatures until graphite residue appears in the crystal, giving it a gray or black tint. Chemical vapor deposition is another method to create black or gray diamonds.

Selecting The Metal For Your Earrings

Jewelry, including earrings for men, are now constructed from a variety of metals which vary greatly in both characteristics and price. By understanding the unique qualities of each you will be able to make a better and more informed decision about which suits your needs.

Gold

Since ancient times, the exquisite beauty of gold has claimed a place of pride as the favorite metal for jewelry. There are two things to consider when looking at gold. First, which gold carat to choose and second, the gold color or the combination of gold colors available. The carat rating of gold refers to its purity. The carat measures the proportion of pure gold mixed with other metal alloys to make up the final metal. Gold can be found in several different colors. The most popular are yellow gold, followed by white and rose gold, though other gold colors are also available the vast majority of gold studs stay within this color range

Titanium

Titanium is the strongest of all metals used in jewelry. Available in a number of colors dependent upon the anodizing process used to create the piece. Titanium has several characteristics that make it a good metal for men’s jewelry. It is a very strong metal that resists bends and scratches better than gold, silver and platinum, is lightweight and offers an exotic array of colors..

Platinum

Platinum is a white metal in appearance and compliments black diamond’s particularly well, but unlike gold platinum jewelry is usually 95% pure with the addition of other metals to improve the shine and luster of the final piece. Platinum is a very dense and heavy metal that is extremely long wearing. Platinum is significantly more expensive than many other metals is a often considered a prestige choice and is often chosen for its sophisticated appeal and popularity amongst the rich and famous.

Silver

Sterling silver is a softer white-grey colored metal that is very common it the jewelry world. It is less expensive than gold, platinum and titanium and is prone to oxidization. Silver is usually available as 92.5% pure silver alloy referred to as sterling silver. Other metals are added to improve strength, luster and reduce tarnishing.

Tungsten

Tungsten is a very hard and durable metal that is quite heavy. The unique characteristic of being highly scratch resistant makes this metal desirable for many men . The tungsten has a grey-white color, similar to that of white gold or titanium. For men this is a popular choice for rings.
